The leading European provider of Internet traffic management solutions, ipoque, introduces the smallest appliance on the Internet traffic management market, its entry-level PRX-20 Traffic Manager. As ipoque's market-proven larger systems in an appliance the size of a CD jewel case, PRX-20 provides the same deep packet inspection (DPI) and bandwidth management technology. Making it suitable for any small network installation at space- and power-constraint locations, it has a maximum throughput of 20 Mbits/s and support for up to 256 subscribers.
Such conditions are usually found in hotels that provide WiFi coverage, company branch offices, Internet cafes and even ships with satellite Internet access. The integrated quality-of-service (QoS) management allows prioritization of business-critical applications while limiting the impact of bandwidth-intensive applications on the overall network performance. Bandwidth reservations and a higher priority, for example, can be assigned to Voice over IP (VoIP) calls using applications such as Skype for guaranteed call quality even if large data exchanges through Web browsing, e-mail transfers or P2P file sharing take place at the same time.
At a fixed price of US$1,760, PRX-20 is available fully licensed. While ipoque's larger appliances come as a base unit plus a number of protocol, feature and bandwidth modules - each with its own price tag, PRX-20 already includes all available options.Sales director of ipoque, Michael Herbst, declared: "PRX-20 has three advantages that together are unmatched: the reliable detection engine, the small size and the extremely competitive price."
