The global market leader for mobile payment enterprise solutions headquartered in Germany, paybox, is proud to announce that the leading German mobile operators - Vodafone and o2 - have launched a new operator-owned mobile payment system in Germany by leveraging the paybox Mobiliser Platform called mpass.mpass, in the first phase, enables customer to securely pay online - with just an easy SMS-confirmation - and to topup airtime via the internet or their mobile phone. mpass already enables m-Payments at a number of well established online retailers such as EuroFuchs, Blume2000.de, CinemaxX, Kickz and Beate Uhse. End customers, in a next phase, can use mpass to pay for m-Commerce services such as m-transportation and also for vending. In the future, mpass will integrate NFC initiated payments.
mpass combines the proven direct debit scheme with a SMS payment confirmation on the mobile phone. Almost 14 Mio Vodafone and o2 post-paid subscribers can activate mpass instantly. Following a quick online registration, prepaid subscribers, business subscribers and subscribers of any other networks with any mobile phone and any bank account can use "mpass".
To enable interoperable payments across any number of MOs, MVNOs, merchants and end customers, mpass leverages the national payment hub functionality of the paybox Mobiliser Platform. Vodafone and o2, with paybox, provide mpass as an ASP service to ensure openness and attractiveness to other market participants. Other German operators can easily join the system. The initial integration effort is low and aims to make the end customer activation for post-paid customers seamless.
